POLICY STATEMENT

1) Enrollment and Tuition

Reading Music Academy is a semester based program.

Suzuki Program: Tuition includes 17 weekly private lessons, 6 group classes, Suzuki books and CDs and performance opportunities.

Private Lesson Program: Enrollment includes 17 weekly private lessons, 2 master classes, Suzuki books and CDs, rehearsals with a professional accompanist and performance opportunities. Students may be required to purchase additional lesson materials at the request of the assigned teacher.

Refunds: Refunds will not be made for missed lessons or classes. Students withdrawing from RMA before the first scheduled class of the semester will receive 100% refund. Students withdrawing from RMA within the first 2 weeks of the semester will receive 75% refund. Students withdrawing from RMA within the first 4 weeks of the semester will receive a 50% refund. Students withdrawing from RMA within the first 6 weeks of the semester will receive a 25% refund. Students withdrawing from RMA after the 6th week of the semester will receive no refund.

Tuition Payment: Payment must be made by the first lesson of each semester (September 8, 2008 and February 2, 2009). Instruction will be suspended if payment is not received by this date. Checks and cash are accepted for payment.

A $35 fee will be charged for returned checks due to insufficient funds. Each family must pay the $30 registration year annually. Payment of the registration fee during the pre-registration period will reserve a private lesson time for the following year. Tuition for students enrolling after the first week of each semester will be prorated.

Installments: Families may choose to make tuition payments in 2 installments each semester due as follow:

Fall Semester – September 8 and November 10              Spring Semester – February 2 and March 30

Instruction will be suspended if payment is not received by these dates.

2) Student Absence

Students and/or parents must notify RMA (via phone or email) of rescheduling requests at least 24 hours in advance of the scheduled lesson. Every effort will be made to reschedule the missed lesson during that same week. In the event of illness or other unforeseen circumstances, please notify RMA as soon as possible. If a lesson cannot be made up during the week in which it was cancelled, it will be made-up during the official make-up period at the end of the semester (see current calendar for exact dates).

Lessons for students not providing advance notice of an absence will be made up at the discretion of the assigned teacher. Fees for missed lessons will not be refunded.

Group lessons, master classes and ensemble rehearsals can not be made up.

3) Teacher Absence

Students and parents should expect that teachers will request rescheduling due to professional commitments. Teachers are required to give students and parents one week notice and to schedule make-up lessons for those professional commitments. Lessons missed due to teacher illness will be made up ASAP.

4) Holidays and Snow Days

RMA will close officially on all Wyomissing Area School District snow days. Lessons cancelled due to snow days will be made up during the official make-up period at the end of the semester or may be rescheduled at the request of the student, parent or teacher. Please see current RMA calendar for all holiday closings.

5) Parent Participation

All children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times. Parents who drop off and pick up students over the age of 12 must do so in a timely manner. RMA is not responsible for students before or after the assigned lesson time. Parents of students in the Suzuki program are required to attend all private and group lessons.

6) Performance Dress

Students are required to wear black skirts or slacks with white blouses or shirts for their performances. This will help the audience focus on your child’s musical ability rather than their attire. This type of dress will also help your child identify with his or her peer musicians and provide a sense of unity and professional pride when performing in public venues.

7) Publicity

Student pictures may be taken occasionally and published on the RMA website, Reading Eagle, brochures, etc. Parents who prefer not to have their child’s picture published may indicate so on the registration form.
